Recent trail closures

A large amount of Forest Roads and other trails are being closed by the Forest Service, other governmental agencies and private property owners. The Forest Service is starting to implement MVUMs (Motor Vehicle Use Maps) to document which trails are open and which are not. The Forest Service does not have to provide a physical barrier anymore for a road to be considered closed. It is illegal to operate a motor vehicle within a National Forest without having a current MVUM on you. I do not routinely check with the Forest Service to see which new roads they have closed. Some of the trails shown on this website may be recently closed by the Forest Service. Although I will attempt to place this information on my site within a reasonable time upon learning of a change in state, it is your responsibility to verify if the road you wish to travel on is open.

For more information on MVUMs, you can visit the National Forest Service's website and a page I've created on MVUMs. Again, my page may not be current and if you're concerned, visit the Forest Service website or give them a call.

This is an awesome 2WD adventure through the beautiful and scenic San Rafael Valley in southern Arizona. You can drive these semi-maintained dirt roads through the seemingly endless grasslands and enjoy the beauty that you may not expect in the desert. You need to put this on your bucket list of what to do in Arizona!

You've just bought your first Jeep and you're ready to hit the trail! Hold on there partner. Having a Jeep is a great start, but just like any sport, you need a little more equipment to do it safely. Click on the link below to go to a list of basic equipment needed for four-wheeling. By no means is this an all-inclusive list. Use your own judgment on what is needed based on your experience level, trail rating and remoteness when four-wheeling. This list is to be used only as a guide.
