My name is Iain Gordon, I am a senior at the University of Arizona studying the art of journalism. My life revolves around friends, family, life, love, music, zen, and of course, the wild. I am a musician of 10 years (bassist), and apart from my outdoor articles, I write music reviews for The Metropolitan Jolt.
As I said, I have a passion for the outdoors as well as a thirst for thrill and adrenaline. Growing up in Arizona, I have come to know and love the many colors, sights, sounds, and secrets of my home state. Apart from my experiences in Arizona I have spent a considerable amount of time in northern Canada where I worked as a canoeing expedition guide. From this experience I worked up an appetite for whitewater, cliff jumping, and ‘the rush’.
In Arizona, we are never far away from that rush, and the awesome beauty of the untamed west.
Iain's Adventures with Experience Arizona
Bouldering in the McDowell Mountains
If you don't know what bouldering is, think of it as rock climbing's unruly brother. It's all done without ropes. Just you and the rock!
Estwing Camping Axe Review
When it comes to time to collect and cut wood out in the bush, there is no substitute for a good axe. In the next Experience Arizona gear review, Iain Gordon examines the Estwing Long Handle Camper's Axe. If you've been looking for a good camping axe, you'll want to read what he has to say.
Pima Canyon Hiking Adventure
For the day-trippers among us, check out our latest piece on the Pima Canyon Trail. Looking for an easygoing afternoon waltz in the Tucson area? We got you. You won't even have to leave the city limits far behind :) Forget planning, just go out and get spontaneous on this one, it doesn't take much. Enjoy!
Canoeing Blue Ridge Reservoir
Arizona means the desert. We know it. We love it. But this doesn't have to mean we can't have fun on the water every now and then. Check out Iain Gordon's latest feature on canoeing along the Blue Ridge Reservoir, a lake without a sunset, but instead a "moonrise".
For those of us who have lived in Arizona long enough to consider the desert home, you may feel more comfortable amongst the rocks and cacti than cool, blue water. That’s why Experience Arizona and intern Iain Gordon have teamed up to bring you an exclusive tutorial on the basics of canoeing and how to get started in the state of Arizona.
Tubing the Salt River
Looking for a good place to soak it all in? At Experience AZ we've got our outdoor fun down to a science. Let's work some formulas: Lazy River + College House Party x Arizona vistas = the Salt River.
Add yourself into the equation and just see what happens. Check out our latest piece on tubing the Salt River!
